Fatal Diseases and How Nutritional Supplements Can Help

June 30th, 2007 . by admin

Heart disease is among the number one killers in modern societies. What heart disease is, is inflammation of the arteries. Over 50% of people who have heart attacks have a normal level of cholesterol. What causes the artery to become inflamed is the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, homocysteine, along with large amounts of free radicals caused by hypertension, diabetes, cigarette smoking, fatty meals, and high insulin levels. Every one of these things can cause inflammation of the artery and can be eliminated or reduced by the use of nutritional supplementation. The next deadly disease is cancer. Recently there have been many milestones to help early cancer diagnosis and treatment. People who get cancer usually face a difficult road to recovery and suffer through pain; it often results in death. There is a lot of literature out there that states cancer is a result of DNA cell damage from unstable molecules over the course of time.

Another dangerous disease is the stroke. Five and a half million die from a stroke every year and this is so high because they often occur without warning. It is estimated that 15% of strokes may be related to high levels of homocysteine. Homocysteine is a by-product of protein metabolism that is raised in people who have lower levels of folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12.

Over 150 million people have diabetes and that number continues to rise. There are so many new cases because people have become resistant to insulin. Doctors treat the blood sugar and not the root of the issue of insulin resistance. What a person eats, the amount pf physical activity and supplements of nutrients will all help a person become more sensitive to their insulin and prevent it from occurring. If you have diabetes then doing those things can help control it. Read the rest of this entry »

A Variety of Vitamin Information

The most well-known vitamin is probably Vitamin C. In the past, sailors died from scurvy until they started to bring citrus on their trips and it prevented it. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and helps to synthesize collagen and this will keep our skin looking healthy. If you want to get a good amount of Vitamin C in, all you need to do is drink some orange juice.

Vitamin D is very important too. So much so that it was added to milk. Because of this addition of Vitamin D to milk, children no longer get the disease rickets. Vitamin D is very significant in the upkeep of our bones and joints to make them strong.

Another supplement, Vitamin B, got it’s stars when it was discovered and used to help stop the beriberi disease. Vitamin B includes the vitamins thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12) pantothetic acid, choline and biotin. This vitamin is important to help us break down carbohydrates. If you are a vegetarian, you might need to take a vitamin supplement to give you these nutrients since no meat is eaten.

Vitamin A is thought to help our membranes. This is why people believe eating carrots is good for our eyes because the beta-carotene is changed into Vitamin A when our body needs it. Vitamin A is essential for maintaining strong cells, helping our immune system function, and helping hormones increase and heal. Read the rest of this entry »

Smoking and Vitamin C

March 7th, 2007 . by admin

New studies have shown that taking a dose of Vitamin C might have the ability to provide some improvement to below average blood circulation that appears in young smokers who are otherwise healthy.

What happened in the study was they took about 13 men who smoked, and they had poor results in blood circulation to the heart. Once a large dose of Vitamin C was taken, around two grams, their circulation tests improved.

Right after the vitamin was taken by the men, their circulation was the same as people who did not smoke. Don’t think that because of this test it will be okay to smoke and then take a Vitamin C pill.

What is Vitamin C? It is an important antioxidant that assists our bodies to clear out molecules that damage our cells. These molecules are known as free radicals. This is the reasoning behind why this vitamin will help to stop the pressure that smoking places on a persons blood vessel lining. If there is no help then a smoker can get an artery disease.
