Nothing is more detrimental to a person’s health than cigarette smoke. Not only is it bad for the person who is the smoker, it is bad for the people around them. It will cause serious damage to your health and the health of others. If you are a smoker, please seriously consider quitting today.

Smoking is the number one source of preventable morbidity and premature mortality on the earth. In America, one in five people will die because of it. Between 1995 and 1999, over 440,000 people died each year from cigarettes. The majority of deaths come from lung cancer, followed by heart disease and obstruction of the airways.

When you smoke, it can take away 13-15 years of your life. If people continue to use cigarette products in America it is estimated over six million children will have a premature death. Smoking also costs our economy over $150 billion in annual health care costs and lost job productivity. Eighty-seven percent of people who get lung cancer and emphysema get it directly from smoking. As you can see, smoking is a serious matter.

In America, heart disease is the main cause of death. As much as 30% of these death could have been prevented if people didn’t smoke.

It’s not that people don’t want to quit, they do try. People often try over 10 times to quit before they are able to. These people need to have the right tools and support to help them do that.

The statistics above are scary and serious. Smoking really effects our economy and the health of our loved ones. If this doesn’t make you want to quit for yourself, do it for the people who love you.
