If you are trying to lose weight the right way, you should be concentrating on having a healthy diet as well as trying to lose weight.

One of the greatest things you can do to help you lose weight is to get as many antioxidants into your diet as you can. This should continue far after losing the weight you want.

Antioxidants have just started becoming talked about and mainstream. Even a few years ago, not many people could tell you what they are or the foods you can get them from. Now there are products that boast of the antioxidants they have.

What is an antioxidant and why are they so important? They help to get rid of free radicals; oxygen atoms that are split in half so there is only one electron as opposed to the two that it is supposed to have. The particles are always being produced in our body and when they aren’t dealt with, they cause many problems.

One problem a free radical can have is to damage the internal tissues of the body’s organs and systems.

Another problem that occurs is they can attach to molecules and mess with our chemical balance. This will cause health problems and allow more free radical particles to multiply.

Damage from free radicals can result in atherosclerosis, cancer, quickening the aging process, and eye cataracts.

There are supplements that can help to fight these free radicals, and they have antioxidant properties. They are:

-Vitamin C

-Vitamin E

-Beta Carotene

-Sulfur

-Selenium

When you are starting your program to lose weight, don’t forget you are trying to be the healthiest person you can be. This includes a great diet and supplements. The weight loss is just an extra benefit.
