Statement 1: Vitamins are sources of energy and taking them will always be beneficial for you.

Truth: Vitamins don’t have calories so they can’t give us energy, their main function is to develop immunity. The right amount of energy will come from a well balanced diet. People should get at least 1200 calories per day.

Statement 2: Vitamins and minerals supplements will help us combat stress.

Truth: Vitamin C will help in oxidative stress only and it is unknown it’s effect on daily stress. If someone is under a lot of stress or has an illness, taking a vitamin will certainly help.

Statement 3: the different kinds of calcium supplements will have same effect.

Truth: Each kind of calcium supplement is going to have a different amount of calcium content in it. When we take a calcium pill, it won’t all get absorbed; the amount of absorption will depend on the estrogen level, acidity in our intestines, amount of vitamin D, and type of calcium supplement. You should buy a calcium pill that meets the standards of U.S. pharmacopeia. These will give you a good amount of elemental calcium. You should take around 1000mg-1350mg.

Statement 4: Athletes and bodybuilders don’t need extra protein.

Truth: They certainly do need extra protein because they are working their muscles harder than anyone else.

Statement 5: There isn’t enough data to show that supplements are safe and effective.

Truth: That statement is very false. There are tons of reports from accredited people and organization that show supplements are beneficial in certain areas. You can look in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the American Journal of Cardiology, or the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. And these are just a few of the several publications.
