April 24th, 2007 . by admin

The nutrient, Vitamin B6, works extremely hard in our bodies. It is also one of the vitamins that is commonly deficient in our bodies. Studies have stated that around a third of adults have a deficiency of Vitamin B6. There are also more women than men who have Vitamin B6 deficiency.

How does Vitamin B6 function?

Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine is one of the most important nutrients required in life. It’s main function is to be a coenzyme and it will help other enzymes do their job when they need some help. Protein, red blood cells, and neurotransmitters all need this vitamin to form. It is needed to help turn the food we eat into energy. There is also research coming out that shows Vitamin B6 as an important part helping to prevent and treat diseases. It has also been shown to reduce homocysteine. Homocysteine is an amino acid-like compound that has links to increases in heart disease.

Vitamin B6 can also help with other functions in the body:

-B6 supplements decrease PMS symptoms

-Helps to ease morning sickness

-Might be helpful to treat epilepsy and depression; it assists in the production of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin.

-It helps to keep nerves healthy; this is important for people with diabetes who have a greater chance of having a nerve disease. Healthy nerves are crucial for people who have carpal tunnel syndrome.

-It has also been shown to ease asthma symptoms by lessening how often they occur and how intense they are.
