Supplements; What are they?

May 17th, 2007 . by admin

We often hear about supplements, but what exactly are they?

The term, supplement, means that it is a product with one or more fundamental nutrients. Protein, vitamins, and minerals all are fundamental nutrients. A supplement will have a certain mixture of vitamins, minerals, herbs, botanicals, amino acids, or metabolites. They can be bough with only one vitamin or mineral and they can be bought with a mixture of them.

Anytime you use a supplement, you should pay attention to the labels, directions, and warnings. Talk to a doctor to be sure the supplement you want to take is the right one for you. Currently, we can get supplements from health food stores, regular grocery stores, drug stores, and the Internet.

It is important that we use caution when looking to purchase a supplement. There are fake supplements on the market, but there are also good ones. More companies are safe and responsible than not, but people still need to beware. It is important to do a lot of research and talk to your doctor before taking a supplement.

Some supplements aren’t FDA approved, but base the effectiveness of their product from scientific information. When this happens there will be a statement on the box that says the product has not been checked by the FDA and it is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
