Folic Acid

Many women who want to have children are supposed to take Folic Acid supplements, or eat foods that contain it. Lots of people are aware of this health fact.

The reason women are supposed to have more Folate or Folic Acid in their diet is because it is in the Vitamin B group and help prevents Spina Bifida in infants. This information is well known, but there is ongoing research that has found it can help other problems.

Studies have shown there is a connection with Folate and depression; the people who have below average Folate levels in their blood have a higher chance of having depression.

In Europe, researchers have found that those who have high levels of Homocysteine in their blood, had almost double the chance of having depression.

Above average levels of Homocysteine may also enhance the chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other problems in the cardiovascular system. People might also get nerve damage because of this. Mostly peripheral, which causes eye diseases.

If you would like to eat food that have large amounts of Folic Acid, you can eat cabbage, broccoli, oranges, spinach, peas, or avocados. It is a great idea to eat these foods regularly. If you are unable to do this, you should take a Folate supplement.
