Antioxidants Can Help to Fight Cancer

Many health experts have come to an agreement that eating a mixture of antioxidant rich foods will help protect people from cancer and improve their immune system. Here is a basic guide of antioxidants and what should be taken each day.

Vitamin C: Has been shown to provide some protection from cancers in the gastro-intestinal system, cataracts, heart disease, and it lessens the intensity of colds. It also maximizes Vitamin E utilization. Vitamin C is best received from vegetables and fruits. Examples of foods high in Vitamin C are strawberries, citrus, red peppers, spinach and other darker green lettuces/greens. A dose of Vitamin C should be 500-1000 mg and is best taken with meals.Vitamin E: This vitamin has two forms. There are the tocoperols, which are the most common, and tocotrienols. Everyone should take Vitamin E supplements to make sure they get the maximum levels. There isn’t much known about tocotrienols yet and research is still being done. Tocopherols might prevent heart disease, stroke, Alzheimers, and some cancers. Studies have shown they can also increase immunity. Tocotrienols may prevent heart disease, breast cancer, and provide protection from UV rays to our skin. Tocopherols are best received by eating nuts and vegetable oil. Tocotrienols can be gotten by eating rice bran. Taking a supplement is a great idea to get all of your Vitamin E; your dosage should be around 400-800 IU.

Selenium: Is useful for protection against cancer, cataracts, heart disease, and macular degeneration. Assists other antioxidants to function at optimum levels. Foods that have selenium are brazil nuts, grains, and vegetables. You should take selenium with meals and have a 100-200 mcg dosage; anything higher might have adverse effects.Coenzyme Q10: Helps prevent cancer and heart disease. It also makes gums stronger, helps our nerves, and helps produce energy. It is found in all of our bodily cells and many are in our heart. It is also in nuts and oils, however, if you need a healing dose you should take supplements. It is recommended that a dosage should be around 30 mg each day. Coenzyme Q10 is crucial to take if you have heart disease.

Alpha-Lipolc Acid: Will help prevent heart disease, cataracts, stroke, cancer, and any nerve damage that is caused by diabetes. There aren’t large amounts found in food, but it is in spinach, beef, and potatoes. It is recommended that 100 mg is taken with food every day, but people who have diabetes should take a higher dosage.
Here are several other antioxidants that are helpful to our bodies. It may be a good idea to include some of them if it will help your health. They are: carotenoids, ginkgo biloba, and proanthocyanidins.

Carotenoids: Can lessen the risk of some cancers, heart disease, cataracts, and macular degeneration. We can eat orange fruits, red fruits, and dark green vegetables to receive it in our diet. If you don’t eat many fruits and vegetables, it is helpful to take a supplement with 25,000 IU of Vitamin A every day.

Ginkgo Biloba: Has been shown to improve circulation and might prevent heart disease, Alzheimers, and impotence. This supplement is taken from leaves on the ginkgo biloba tree. You can take 30-60 mg of the extract with a meal or without a meal.Proanthocyanidins: They are found in grape seed extract, pine bark extract, berry extracts and fruit extracts. It can help improve our body’s creation of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and glutathione. We should consume a dosage of 30-200 mg every day.
