A Variety of Vitamin Information
May 8th, 2007 . by adminThe most well-known vitamin is probably Vitamin C. In the past, sailors died from scurvy until they started to bring citrus on their trips and it prevented it. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and helps to synthesize collagen and this will keep our skin looking healthy. If you want to get a good amount of Vitamin C in, all you need to do is drink some orange juice.
Vitamin D is very important too. So much so that it was added to milk. Because of this addition of Vitamin D to milk, children no longer get the disease rickets. Vitamin D is very significant in the upkeep of our bones and joints to make them strong.
Another supplement, Vitamin B, got it’s stars when it was discovered and used to help stop the beriberi disease. Vitamin B includes the vitamins thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12) pantothetic acid, choline and biotin. This vitamin is important to help us break down carbohydrates. If you are a vegetarian, you might need to take a vitamin supplement to give you these nutrients since no meat is eaten.
Vitamin A is thought to help our membranes. This is why people believe eating carrots is good for our eyes because the beta-carotene is changed into Vitamin A when our body needs it. Vitamin A is essential for maintaining strong cells, helping our immune system function, and helping hormones increase and heal.
The next vitamin, Vitamin E, is thought to be useful in maintaining our heart, skin, hair, muscles, joints, and nerves. It is a natural antioxidant. Vitamin E is believed to support the heart, skin, hair, muscles, nerves and joints. It is a natural anti-oxidant. This vitamin was revealed when lab rats weren’t supplied with a balanced diet; researchers only gave them one food. They discovered that by only eating one thing, the rats could live, but they were not able to breed. There was no Vitamin E in their diet. The study showed how important Vitamin E was because if it was absent from a diet it could result in health problems. They were only fed one kind of food at a time. It was found that they could stay alive but could not breed.
The next one, Vitamin K, helps the clotting of blood. There are times when a person goes in for a surgery and they are administered Vitamin K. It probably should not be taken with other anti-coagulants.
Every year, there is a new study with new information about vitamins and how they can help us. If you want to get more vitamins, all you have to do it eat nutritional foods. Multi-vitamins will also help if you are unable to receive your nutrients through food.
