Heart disease is among the number one killers in modern societies. What heart disease is, is inflammation of the arteries. Over 50% of people who have heart attacks have a normal level of cholesterol. What causes the artery to become inflamed is the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, homocysteine, along with large amounts of free radicals caused by hypertension, diabetes, cigarette smoking, fatty meals, and high insulin levels. Every one of these things can cause inflammation of the artery and can be eliminated or reduced by the use of nutritional supplementation. The next deadly disease is cancer. Recently there have been many milestones to help early cancer diagnosis and treatment. People who get cancer usually face a difficult road to recovery and suffer through pain; it often results in death. There is a lot of literature out there that states cancer is a result of DNA cell damage from unstable molecules over the course of time.
Another dangerous disease is the stroke. Five and a half million die from a stroke every year and this is so high because they often occur without warning. It is estimated that 15% of strokes may be related to high levels of homocysteine. Homocysteine is a by-product of protein metabolism that is raised in people who have lower levels of folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12.
Over 150 million people have diabetes and that number continues to rise. There are so many new cases because people have become resistant to insulin. Doctors treat the blood sugar and not the root of the issue of insulin resistance. What a person eats, the amount pf physical activity and supplements of nutrients will all help a person become more sensitive to their insulin and prevent it from occurring. If you have diabetes then doing those things can help control it. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you know what phytochemicals are? You don’t really need to know the scientific side of it, you need to know that they should be a part of your daily diet. The best sources of phytochemicals are found in fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts.
Even though they can be found in a variety of foods, many people don’t eat nearly enough of them. In the past, there were promotions for people to eat their daily amount of vegetables and fruit, but people still don’t eat the correct amount. Everyone should be eating five servings of fruits and vegetables, but the average person only eats about three and a half. Just over half of those servings come from potatoes, lettuce, and canned tomatoes.
So, you may be eating your daily amounts of vegetables and fruit, but you are most likely NOT getting phytonutrients you need. You will also not be getting the essential vitamins that will help your body function well, even if you get a good variety of fruits and vegetables. Read the rest of this entry »
